GP Business Consulting collaborates with GIZ to facilitate the registration of businesses for selected entrepreneurs
The German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) has commissioned GIZ to undertake the Programme for Sustainable Economic Development (PSED) in Ghana. A key component of the PSED is the Migration and Employment Promotion (MEP) project. The MEP focuses on migration and development, as well as economic development and job creation. The MEP seeks to provide and promote alternatives to irregular migration through the promotion of entrepreneurship and self-employment. It does so by providing entrepreneurship and financial literacy training to migrants here in Ghana. The majority of the beneficiaries have established their own business enterprises. As a way of ensuring PSED-MEP beneficiaries’ businesses become formalized, GIZ has commissioned GP Business Consulting to facilitate the business registration process for beneficiaries operating their businesses informally. The registration exercise is being conducted for 200 beneficiaries located within the Greater Accra, Bono, Bono East, Ashanti and Ahafo regions.
For candidates who have been shortlisted for the business registration exercise for the Greater Accra region, GIZ organised a two-day training session at the Airport View Hotel in conjunction with GP Business Consulting. During the sessions, Mr Julian Boakye, Senior Consultant at GP Business Consulting and Lead Consultant on the project, took participants through the importance and benefits of formalizing their businesses by registering with the Registrar General’s Department.
He emphasised why registering a business is important and advantageous, such as establishing legitimacy and brand awareness, as well as raising considerable funding for the business.
Mr Edem Badu, a consultant at GP Business Consulting, also took participants through the various business structures that can be registered. They include sole proprietorship, partnerships, as well as limited liability company, among others. He further discussed the prerequisites that a business owner must meet to effectively register their business, such as having the Ghana Card, Tax Identification Number (TIN), Director(s) (where required) as well as address, to mention a few.
Following the in-depth presentation, the GP Business Consulting team assisted participants to fill out the respective forms for onward submission to the Registrar General’s Department. Similar workshops will be conducted in the other project regions.
