Mineral Extraction and Processing
Investment Opportunities, Industries and Sectors
Ghana is well-endowed with mineral resources with reserves of gold, manganese, bauxite, diamond and limestone among others. The mining sector is one of the largest contributors to national growth, development and income. A major objective of the government of Ghana is to shift to a comprehensive vision that facilitates greater exploitation of Ghana's industrial minerals. The industry provides quality and high paying jobs directly to Ghanaians, who constitute about 98% of the workforce and trains and gives capacity to Ghanaian youth, who often transfer their skills into other sectors of the economy.
Investment opportunities in the industry are in the areas of mineral extraction or production and industrial processing through the establishment of refinery facilities to supply both local and international markets. Companies and investors can participate both directly and indirectly, either in the production or through engineering and other supporting services, including contract drilling, assay laboratories, contract mining and geological consultancies to mining companies in the country.
There are opportunities in the downstream sector as well: in manufacturing machinery for the mining industry or by providing key input materials for the mining industry, such as mill balls, drill bits, cyanide and activated carbon.
